Welcome to my weekly Dublin events posts, published every single Sunday sharing the best things happening around the city each week. I really hope you enjoy them.

Monday

Event– FREE Meditation evening

Location- Meditation, 1 Hanover Square, Dublin 8

Description- W​hen you feel lonely and alone you are not aware of the best of you. There is more to you than just the body,feelings and instincts. Every person has a goldmine of experiences. I show you how to discover and explore these experiences.

Every reaction (not disorder) has a beginning and a meaning in your life and an opportunity to celebrate and thank god for the guinness/addiction. (without it you might be dead).

Children’s event– Monday After School Group

Location- Phoenix Forest School, Phoenix Park

Description- This after school will take place every Monday from 3pm-5.30pm.
Suitable for ages 5-12
Cost is 20e per session (10% discount for additional siblings)

Full payment of each term will be required before the first day of term.
Term one: 7th January-11th February
Term two: 25th February – 8th April

Examples of activities:
*Wild edibles and medicines: learning to forage safely and ethically; making teas, medicines & wild cooking on the fire.
*Fire craft: learning about fire, how it can be created and extinguished safely, trying out and practicing different techniques.
*Tool use and craft: learning how trees & plants can provide us with materials that we can get creative with
*Den building: working together to build shelters and learning the basics of outdoor living.
*Animal track and sign: Get camouflaged, learn how to stalk like a fox and explore the traces left by animals who share the woods with us. Tracking encourages children to think scientifically, spatially & symbolically.
*Group decision making, community building, nature-inspired games and awareness activities, plus plenty of free play and campfire stories and songs!

There will be an absolute maximum of 15 children in each session with two fully qualified forest school practitioners, garda vetted & first aid trained.

Tuesday

Event– An Evening of Celtic Jazz

Location- Arthur’s Blues n’ Jazz Club, Arthur’s pub, Thomas Street

Description- As part of the St Patrick’s Day March celebrations, come and join us for a special evening!

Melanie O’Reilly and Frank Martin have become known as one of the most formidable vocal /piano duos in the Bay Area, California & the West coast of USA. As part of Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day March celebrations, they will team up again on Tuesday March 5th, in Arthurs, and together the they will perform their unique, exciting, exhilarating sound fusing two great traditions – Jazz and Celtic. Their repertoire will include original compositions – inspired by Irish literature such as James Joyce’s works, contemporary Irish poetry by Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, Sean O Riordain, and stories of Ireland, – as well as the duo’s unique take on jazz standards. Having represented Ireland at the International European Jazz Festival at Schoenberg Hall in Los Angeles, Melanie and Frank are delighted to be bringing their special magic to Dublin, especially as Frank travels en route from his weekend at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club!

They will be joined by Dublin’s own Cormac O’Brien on Bass, and Myles Drennan on drums .. All welcome!

Melanie, from Ireland, is an international figure in the world of Celtic music and jazz, having performed in venues including Lincoln Center, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Schoenberg Hall LA, the Cork Jazz Festival and the World Music Festival “d’Ici et D’Ailleurs” in France.

Her unique style fuses traditional Celtic melodies, American jazz, and Latin music. Her original compositions are created through the inspiration of literary figures, such as James Joyce, and lyrics based on contemporary Irish poems. She is also the creator, host and co-producer of the award-winning series “Jazz on the Bay”, broadcast on RTE Radio 1.

Frank Martin is highly renowned and one of the most exciting pianist/arrangers in the Bay Area with a formidable roster of performances and recordings with musicians in the jazz and pop worlds, including Sting, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Narada Michael Waldon, Turtle Island String Quartet, Stevie Wonder, and the world-class Brazilian band of Jose Neto.

Both Melanie and Frank are renowned music educators.

Children’s event– Tiny Tots Tuesday: Singaling for Spring!

Location- EPIC Immigration Museum, The CHQ Building, Dublin 1

Description- This March we’re celebrating Spring with Singaling and having not one, not two, not three… but four Tiny Tots Tuesdays!

We’ll be exploring music and play in these adorable workshops, so bring your little one along for a morning of fun, song and dance. We’re looking forward to hearing some tiny tunes!

There will be free tea and coffee provided by Bakehouse CHQ, as well as some lovely treats and a chance to sit back, relax and have the chats.

Participants at this event can also avail of a 20% discount on tickets to our museum and 20% off in our gift shop (discount does not apply to items already discounted). Just present your Eventbrite ticket or email at the check-out!

Event– Twerk After Work™ with Tati – Single sessions

Location- The Real Dance Studio, 40 North Lotts

Created by Bami Kuteyi, #TwerkAfterWork™ is a 1 hour dance fitness class where the main aim is to have fun! While learning some twerking moves (a style originally from West Africa), you sweat, burn at least 600 calories, make friends and the most important: you take a time to understand how essential loving yourself is, to appreciate your body and to encourage others to be wild, brave, FEARLESS!

This is a fitness dance class which aim to presents the original Bam Bam Boogie twerk moves, to promote wellness and spread the word of female empowerment.

With 10 years of experience as a dancer in Brazil, Tati Santos is one of the first #TwerkAfterWork™ instructors in Dublin, and has been developing her own style blending brazilian funk, latin music and afrobeats.

Description- Have you ever heard of Daedalus and Icarus, a father and son, who wanted to fly? And what do you know about Echo? On the eve of International Women’s Day, Irish Baroque Orchestra perform Donna Barocche at the National Concert Hall’s Kevin Barry Recital Room. Donna Barocche highlights the sometimes neglected compositional output by female composers of the baroque period and particularly celebrates the 400th anniversary of the birth of Barbara Strozzi.

Event– Balance for Better – a panel discussion on accelerating gender balance

Location- Digital Depot, Roe Lane, The Digital Hub, Dublin 8

Description- To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) on Friday, 8th March 2019, The Digital Hub will hold a panel discussion with women who are working in the area of Connected Health.

Our inspiring panellists will share their personal stories, professional perspectives and insights on accelerating gender balance.

Our panellists for this International Women’s Day event are Avril Copeland, Founder & CEO of Innerstrength Ltd.; Talita Hozer, CEO & Co-Founder of waytoB; and Dervilla O’Brien, Founder, HealthBridge Technology and Owner, Outside the Box Executive Development.

Event– Free Walking Tour Howth 

Location- Meet at Howth Dart Station

Description- See Howth through the eyes of a local. This experience will let you live, feel & breathe the real Ireland as thou you were a native.

We start our journey through time, hearing tales of Viking and Norman invasions and learning about the history of the 700-year-old castle. Immerse yourself in Irish culture as we walk through the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey (Built in 1042) and visit sites known only to locals (Hidden Howth). There will be plenty of time for photographs, as you stroll through this picturesque fishing village and meet the local colony of seals and the huge variety of seabirds. Whether you have a passion for Irish history, or prefer listening to the myths and legends you have come to associate with ancient Ireland, there is something for everyone.

Description- Creative Drama for Kids (6 -12 y.o.) will involve drama games and activities, simple improvisation and puppetry (making and performing). Drama will help kids to improve self – expression, working as a team and become more confident.
