Event– Baking Class

Location- The Cake Cafe, Pleasant’s Place, Dublin 8

Description- Our baking classes happen once a month. It is a hands on class for all levels of bakers. We cover four master recipes in the class and you get to take home a box of your baked goods at the end of the evening. Classes book out early every month so please get in touch early!!

Children’s Event– Harvest Display Construction

Location- National Botanic Gardens of Ireland

Description- The gardeners have been busy growing a huge variety of colourful pumpkins, gourds, squashes and lots of other plants for our Halloween display. The special harvest display will be built just outside the Visitor Centre stage by stage. Ask questions and find out more about the organic fruit and vegetables being used as well as the design and construction. Each day the display will grow and take shape towards its final splendor.

Try your luck at guessing the weight of the giant pumpkin and submit your entry at the Visitor Centre reception – the prizewinner will be announced on Monday 5th November.

Tuesday

Event– Beginner Aerial Courses

Location- Creation Ariel, 76g Bannow Road, Cabra

Description- 5 weeks, 1 hour classes, 9 places available in each course. Learn the very basics of working with fabric including climbs, inversions, wraps and locks in our Beginner Basics Silks or learn to dance with the Trapeze in our Beginner Trapeze course.

Short and sweet, these 5 week courses are designed for absolute beginners and improvers who want to try Aerial Silks for the first time or continue from a previous beginner basics course. Teachers Emily, Monica and Katie draw on personal style and technical expertise, providing an excellent introduction to the wonderful art of aerial dance.

Combining elements of pilates and ground based acrobatic movement, our Beginner Basics Silks course will help strengthen, lengthen and lighten the physical body while developing motor skills, coordination and proprioception for broader capacity of movement.

Suitable for students with no previous experience or improver students who want to revisit fundamentals.

Event– Hamlet | DTF18

Location- Gate Theatre, Parnell Square

Description- The time is out of joint. O cursèd spite, that ever I was born to set it right!’

A murdered King. A remarried Queen. A state on the precipice. When society starts to collapse, do we fight or flee?

Hamlet is one of the most revived Shakespeare plays in the Gate’s 90 year history (1928–2018). In celebration of the theatre’s pioneering founders, Hilton Edwards and Micheál Mac Liammóir, Shakespeare’s iconic story of politics, vengeance, madness and murder is reimagined in a ground-breaking, visionary Gate Theatre production for today’s audience.

Oscar-nominated Irish actress, Ruth Negga, makes her Gate stage debut in the title role of Hamlet, joined by a cast of Ireland’s finest actors. Award-winning director Yaël Farber heads an exciting creative team including Tony Award-winning set and costume designer Susan Hilferty, lighting designer Paul Keogan and composer Tom Lane.

Children’s Event– Youth Circus Classes Term 1

Location- Orwell Hall, Christchurch Rathgar

Description- 3.15 – 4.15pm, Circus Games for 5 to 7 year old children
Obstacle courses, teamwork games, pyramid building and more. This class is designed to develop your child’s balance and coordination as well as their ability to work in a team. The basics of circus skills such as: juggling, jumping, beam balancing etc. will be taught trough games, songs and fun activities.

4.15 – 5.15pm, Beginners Circus for 8 to 12 year children
Juggling, stilt walking, tumbling, hula hoop, tight wire walking, diabolo, partner acrobatics and more will be introduced with a focus on game based learning and creativity. The participants can expect to learn new tricks, makes lots of new friends and improve coordination.

5.30 – 6.30pm, Circus Club for 13 to 18 year old teenagers
Juggling, stilt walking, tumbling, hula hoop, tight wire walking, diabolo, partner acrobatics, clowning, dance and physical conditioning. In this class we will be delving further into each skill and asking participants to put their own personal touch on it. This class will be fun yet challenging as solo as well as group skills are taught and everyone will have the chance to create their own circus number.

Wednesday

Event– Your Digestive Health

Location- Onebody 18 Priory Hall, Stillorgan

Event– Halloween – 40th Anniversary Screenings

Location- Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield

Description- We just can’t let the month of October go by without screening John Carpenter’s classic! This year it celebrates it’s 40th anniversary and it’s still every bit as terrfiying as the day it was released.

Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield to kill again.

Children’s Event– The Young King – For Ages 8+

Location- The Ark Dublin, 11A Eustace Street

Description- The Ark and Dublin Theatre Festival welcome Slingsby back to Dubln Theatre Festival with a beautiful new adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic story.

A naïve boy raised by goatherds is discovered to be heir to the kingdom. Treasures and privileges are laid at his feet, but at what cost to others? Part of the Theatre for Children season in Dublin Theatre Festival 2018.

Thursday

Event– SPIT2018 Essential Wine Event for Winelovers

Location- The Chocolate Factory Arts Centre, 26 Kings Inn Street

Description- If you love wine and are interested in tasting out of the ordinary wines from artisan wineries then SPIT is the wine tasting for you. Now in its fourth year, at a new venue in Dublin 1.

SPIT is a window into a world of wines which have a strong and unique sense of identity and a way to discover more about the independent wine scene in Ireland.

Event– Behind the Headlines: Dublin Housing: Then and Now

Location- Thomas Davis Theatre, Arts Building, Fellows Square, Trinity College Dublin

Description- As Ireland emerges from the economic crash and austerity which ensued, Dublin’s housing issues have escalated. In cooperation with the new Trinity and the Changing City series this Behind the Headlines discussion series will take a broad temporal view on Dublin’s housing issues over the decades.

Contributors will include Paula Mayock, Assistant Professor at Trinity’s School of Social Work and Social Policy and author of Living in Limbo: Homeless Young People’s Paths to Housing, Ronan Lyons, Assistant Professor of Economics at Trinity, Charles Duggan, Heritage Officer with Dublin City Council and lead on the restoration of 14 Henrietta Street, the inner city’s most intact tenement building, and Lisa Griffith, Programme Manager at Digital Repository of Ireland and author of Dublin Then and Now.

Children’s Event– Leopardstown – Circus Gerbola

Location- Leopardstown Racecourse

Description- Day 3 of our Dublin illustration events and why not throw a party! Buzz down to the awesome Lucky’s on Meath Street to meet your peers, catch up and have a drink together.

Be sure to bring your sketchbook as this time we’ll be doin a big round of ultimate swapsies.

Event– Vegan Afternoon Tea by Wild Sage Bakery

Location- Platform 61, 27 South William Street

Description- Very excited to be bringing the Wild Sage Bakery Vegan Afternoon Tea experience to Platform 61, a beautiful little restaurant nestled into South William St in the city centre.

There will be a delicious selection of sweet and savoury baked goods, sandwiches and petit fours.

Children’s Event– Young Chef Classes

Location- Airfield Estate, Dundrum, Dublin 14

Description- Is your child a budding chef or do they love to help you out in the kitchen?

Our young chef classes for 8-12-year olds will run four times during the year with seasonal menus and take-home recipes. Children will explore our food gardens and harvest their own ingredients for the different dishes they produce.

Classes will be led by our education, restaurant and bakery team in a relaxed and fun environment. Children will see the process of food from farm to fork and get hands-on, learning kitchen safety with correct utensil care. They will soon be getting creative in the kitchen preparing delicious healthy meals that they can recreate at home.
