Location- Castleknock Community Centre

Description- Fun, hands-on science, engineering and maths activities for primary school age children.
This year the experiments will be all about botany, bioplastics, anatomy, pulleys and levers and food science.

EventThe Dublin Story Slam- Holiday

Location- Sugar Club Leeson Street

Description- Everyone has a story and we’d love to hear yours. At Dublin’s only open mic competitive storytelling night hosted by Broadcaster, Author & Comedian, Colm O’Regan, we’re looking for your short true stories inspired by a different theme each month.
This month it’s HOLIDAY & we’re looking for stories about a time you closed up shop, packed your bags & made your own great escape. A forgotten day trip with the family to an unforgettable epic voyage around the world. Sun filled scorchers to rain filled afternoons. Tales of a relationships that didn’t survive the trip to scorching hot holiday romances that still survive today. Stories of getting away from it all, finding yourself off the beaten path or maybe just finding yourself. Whatever your holiday was like, we want to hear all about at this month’s Dublin Story Slam.

Sign up to tell a story on the night or pre sign up to secure your spot by e.mailing us your name & the first line of your story to info@thedublinstoryslam.com. Pre Sign ups are limited to four with another four stories chosen at random on the night. and the first 8 storytellers get in for free & to skip the queue.

Children’s eventTiny Tots Tuesday: Storytelling with Gaiety School of Acting

Location- EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum

Description- We are delighted to once again join forces with the Gaiety School of Acting to present a sensational Summer themed Parent and Toddler Theatre class!

Our immersive hour long workshop is led by a facilitator with years of experience in acting and theatre. In this workshop, we will be taking you all on an EPIC adventure, from the deep depths of our imagination to the realms of impossibility and adventure! Combining elements of storytelling, books and art, the class will provide parents and children with a fun space to engage, bond and experiment with drama and performance in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
Enjoy some delicious free tea and coffee from Bakehouse CHQ as part of the workshop, as well as some sweet treats.

EventCreative Drawing for Beginners and Improvers – A Three Day Course

Location- The Market Studios, Halston Street

Description- A three day course examining various ways of drawing from observation while staying creative and inspired.

This short course is suitable for complete beginners or those who want to improve their drawing from basic principles.

Times: 11AM until 4.30PM Tuesday to Friday Augsut 13th, 14th and 15th.

Over the three days we will be going over the basics of drawing from observation- starting with simple still life drawing and then working on the figure; a full day on portraiture and self-portraiture, and then an intensive day of drawing different types of poses, including one long pose on the final afternoon.

The classes will include talks, demonstrations and slide shows, as well as lots of practical exercises and one-to-one tuition.

The Market Studios is the animation campus of Pulse College on Halston Street, Dublin 7. They are right beside the Four Courts Luas stop and the old fruit market. Each day will include a short lunch break – there’s a nice break room to eat lunch in the studios or there are lots of cafes on nearby Capel Street.

Children’s eventComic Book Art Summer Camp

Location- Artmines, 195 Rathmines Road

Description- Over the course of the week participants will learn everything there is to know about comics, from drawing and character creation to writing and story boarding. They will even bind their own book. They will also take their characters off the page and make costumes and masks from their own stories! This is a great summer camp for anyone who loves drawing, making & comic books!
Suitable for kids aged 6 – 12

Cost- €150 for full course

EventDead Poet’s Society // 30th Anniversary Screenings

Location- Light House Cinema

Description- Peter Weir’s intense and inspiring drama Dead Poets Society follows a group of teenage boys in a privileged school as they struggle with the pressures of their home and academic lives. As they strike up a special bond with their eccentric English teacher Mr Keating (Robin Wiliams) they learn, through Keating’s exuberant worldview that they can go against the status quo and free themselves from the constraints of their social world.

Children’s eventKidspace Summer Camp Week 2

Location- Kidspace Rathcoole, Grants Road

Description- SUMMER CAMP IS BACK. You asked for it! And it’s back BIGGER and BETTER for 2019 – with lots of new activities that your little ones will love. We will have a different theme each day including: Lego- in our themed lego room, Arts & Crafts – messy play, bubbles and more. Baking – pizza & sweet treats. Games Day – fun & games. All activities are suitable for 4-10 year olds and run from 10:30am-2:30pm. Each day our award-winning chef will prepare a tasty hot lunch and there will also be time each to have fun in the playframes! Places are limited. €80 per child and €65 for any further siblings.

EventUkulele Hooley By The Sea 2019

Location- People’s Park Dun Laoghaire

Description- Europe’s longest running ukulele festival Ukulele Hooley By The Sea in Dun Laoghaire is not only a great celebration of all things ukulele it’s also traditionally a great family day out.
So join us for our 10th Anniversary Hooley for a fantastic 7 hour concert featuring some of the worlds ukulele musicians and performers!

Children’s eventDogs Trustival

Location- Dogs Trust Ireland

Description- We have some very exciting news!!! To celebrate a decade of rescuing and rehoming dogs in Ireland, we are delighted to announce we will be holding our very first festival-themed event, Dogs Trustival, at our Rehoming Centre on Sunday, 18th of August from 12pm to 5pm!

Our exciting new family festival will be jam packed with all things doggie and an array of fun-filled entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, including:

Training displays with some of the most talented Dogs Trust residents and their Canine Carers
“Tailwagger Walk” market, full of doggie retail and exhibitions and delicious street food vendors
A children’s’ “Education Corner” with face-painting
Doggie Agony Aunts
A “Pup Up” photo booth with Pawtrait
The “Museum of Modern Bark”, where a host of well-known Irish artists, including Audrey Hamilton, Morgan and the Jam Art Factory will exhibit dog portraits to be raffled at the event
For people bringing their own dogs, there will be designated activity areas to let your dogs have fun and explore too!

The very lovely TV presenter, author and dog lover Andrea Hayes will be our compare extraordinaire on the day and we will also have some well-known Irish music acts who will play exclusive acoustic sets in a small intimate setting!

Top Irish band, Hudson Taylor, who featured some Dogs Trust residents in their recent music video “Run with Me”, will play a number of their biggest hits, as well as new Dublin band SAARLOOS, who will be performing an acoustic version of their debut single, “Changes”, which reached almost 4 million streams on Spotify.

Special entertainment acts will include a magician, face painters, a balloon modeller and live bubbles, as well as the our very own “Dog Tales with Andrea Hayes” competition, a chance for people to tell the audience what their dog means to them and the impact their dog has had on their life, which will be judged by Irish model Holly Carpenter, TV presenter Maia Dunphy and Dogs Trust Head of Operations Karla Dunne.

Family tickets only €35 and dogs* go free! Tickets are limited so please book soon to avoid disappointment.

*Dogs are welcome, once he/she is well socialised, comfortable with other dogs, children and familiar with large crowds of people.
