EventTRANS-FUSION Festival: Irish Trans Archive History Talk

Location- EPIC Irish Imigration Museum, CHQ Building

Description- As part of TRANS-FUSION Festival Ireland, EPIC is delighted to welcome TENI – Transgender Equality Network Ireland chair Sara R. Phillips to host this fascinating talk charting the history of the Irish Transgender diaspora.

In recent years, Transgender people have stepped out of the shadows and and are beginning to participate fully in Irish society. But did you know that there have been Transgender individuals in Ireland for over 250 years? While many remained on the Emerald Isle, some individuals felt they had to emigrate in order to live their true identity. In conjunction with EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, The TRANS-FUSION Festival, the Irish Trans Archive and TENI, Sara R Phillips will provide a fascinating look into the lives of many of these individuals over the past 250 years, while also charting the journey of Trans rights in Ireland over the past 30 years.

EventSwap shop pop up

Location- MVP, Upper Clanbrassil Street

Description- Looking to refresh your wardrobe but don’t know where to start? You are looking for more sustainable solution to your clothing habits and have a low budget?

We have a solution for you! Just follow these 6 steps and you will relook your wardrobe in only two hours 😉 Wanna bet?

Step 1. Look into your wardrobe and select all the items you have not worn for a while just because you don’t love them anymore. Beware, they need to be clean and wearable!
Step 2. Bring them with you to the MVP in Dublin 8 on the 4th of June. Someone else might love to have them!
Step 3. Get a token in exchange to any clothing item donated
Step 4. Use your tokens to get new clothes and give them a second life.
Step 5. Have a drink, sit back and relax. It’s time for a chat, there will be loads of lovely people at the event
Step 6. Go home happy with new clothes

Clothing items might be clothes, shoes or accessories and jewellery. The only requirement is that they are clean and wearable.

There will be a donation box if you run out of tokens. All items that did not get a second chance will be donated to a local charity shop after the event.

The event is free but donations are always welcome. They help us organise always more events and have unique speakers talk during our festivals and pop ups!

There will also be access to the bar downstairs at the MVP, they do amazing drinks with no straws 🙂

You like the concept and want to take part? We are always looking for volunteers! The best part in volunteering at a swap shop? You get the first dibs on any item you like…. Send us a quick message to join the team, we know you want to!

Location- Pallas Projects 115-117 The Coombe

Description- Pallas Projects/Studios are pleased to present Tadhg Ó Cuirrín—Lift Yourself the fourth exhibition of our Arts Council Ireland funded 2019 Artist-Initiated Projects programme.

It isn’t hard to see, ooh
The hangups we have today
Said we need to strive for more liberty
Lift yourself up on your feet, let’s get it on

…and I was thinking of a mountain that was once an ocean.
Wait, what? No.

There are other worlds (they have not told you of)

My dad used to tell me you could see Hybrasil from our house on a fine day. My mom reckoned it was only Mt Brandon.

I read somewhere the last day that there’s a moving island made of plastic in the Pacific Ocean. A kind of plastic Hybrasil. Every colour, every shape. Opaque, then translucent. Beautiful and terrible. A monument to our own intemperance and our love of convenience.

Do you think you could go there? Like is there enough to walk on?
Mountains and valleys and so on. Ups and downs, peaks and troughs. I could stand and watch the hollow hills expand and contract like a pair of lungs in a Junior Cert science experiment.
The sounds fall in to my mind. Like rustling. Like breathing. The lungs of the world. World of the lungs. A big bag of slippery lungs.

There are other worlds. (They have not told you of)

I’ve always believed I could see things other people couldn’t, ya know? Elements falling in to place. A design. A shape in the chaos of things.

I mean who knows man? What is the diameter of the earth? Why is the earth not a cube? Where are we really?
You don’t know right?
I’m just asking questions.
I just want to hear all sides of the story.
What if they’re lying to us?
